I became a social worker because I wanted to provide mental health care in a way that acknowledges people's problems do not occur out of nowhere. As human beings, we are profoundly influenced by the people, places, culture, and events that surround our lives. I seek to provide psychotherapy that does not try to fix what is "wrong" with you but instead asks, "given all the things that have influenced your life up to this moment, how could things be any other way?" This perspective acknowledges the many social forces and "isms" that affect our lives, while helping you to recover from those experiences and build a life that you want.

I have found that Third Wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapies provide some of the best tools to help people recover from life's difficulties, take control, and build the life they want. These therapies, which include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology, and other mindfulness-based therapies, form the template for most of my therapeutic work with clients. Whether you are dealing with traumatic past experiences, discrimination, micro aggressions, identity issues, or cultural pressures regarding appearance and body image, these therapies can help.
